Eco beauty, Eco fashion…. Is “green” the new black??

Posted by v on April 6, 2008

Yikes! I cringe when I read these types of tiles, they are so pretentious and… you get it. Anyway, I knew I was going to jump on this Eco bandwagon someday. You just can’t escape it. Its in your face and after a while, I guess we must all come to the realisation that we are responsible for our environment. Fashion houses and corporations everywhere are using this green “issue” as a money maker. I also personally care about poverty, womens rights, empowerment issues, wars, name it there are so many causes but not all of them are great money makers.

Two words introduced into the fashion lingo admittedly will make me fringe and they are “hemp clothing”!. Then, I found Linda Loudermilk and Edun clothing and I thought I can do this.  She is making the money, making the world less messed up and I look good. Her clothes guarantee we won’t look like a bunch of hippies. Its a win-win situation.

Linda Loudermilk fabrics are made of sasawashi, bamboo, sea cell, soya and other exotic self-sustaining plants. Their belief is that the clothing and accessories we wear, the products we use and the vehicles we drive are a perfect mouthpiece for the spirit of our complex, colorful and rockin earth: this is luxury eco . With the luxury eco marketplace they aim to give eco glamour legs, a fabulous look and a slammin attitude that stops traffic and shouts the message: eco can be edgy, loud, fun, playful, feminine (or not) and hyper-cool. Linda Loudermilk women s apparel is created by meticulously researched sustainable business practices and fair labor standards. Luxury eco redefines sustainability with design that gives back to the earth. Linda Loudermilk clothing outfits the movement, providing the uniform for this new kind of earth warrior an infusion of hope for an abused but resilient planet.

Okay Linda, you won me over! Her clothing is available at zappos.com

Possibly the next hottest handbag??

Posted by v on April 6, 2008

Dior is enjoying a shift from its formerly stodgy reputation. It’s handbags were featured on Lipstick Jungle, they designed Bruni’s wardrobe and we hear some of their ensemble and handbags (this one perhaps) will be featured in the SATC movie. Sweet!

I bought my first Dior clutch in 1980 (yes, I started really early, got my first Gucci at 12) and my mom borrowed it and never gave it back.  I can’t think of any Dior Accessory I have bought since then, but this one, me likes! I even like it in purple even though one of the Olsen girls was spotted carrying one in yellow. Oh yes, I bought the Dior bag Princess Diana carried (the Lady Dior- don’t even know where it is), so its only fitting that I buy this one being toted by Carla Bruni. Amazing logic huh!

Back to the bag, available at eluxury.com for a mere $2,290. You don’t have to pay rent? do you?
I am assuming that in an attempt to justify the price, Dior has attached a small clutch which can be carried seperately or inside the purse. You see, you are actually getting two purses for the price of one. Hmmm,OK. The clutch will not be sold separately, darn!
Dimensions are 15.5″ (at widest point)x 8.5″x 6.5″.
If you are lucky enough to get your hands on one, let us know. We promise to be only a teensie, weensie bit jealous.
Welcome back Dior!

Carla Bruni .. Why isn’t she ours??

Posted by v on April 6, 2008

If you have not been following the saga that should be titled “Sarkozy and Bruni”, please do, its more fun than Obama, Clinton or McCain. Please read my earlier posts on Carla and Nicky (yes! I know them like that) prior to the London trip. I am so fascinated by this story and now the President Sarkozy’s ex wife Cecilia is married but who really cares about her!

After her recent State visit, all the women in Britain are in love with Carla Bruni ,40 ( former Italian model , turned poet and singer)  and her nude pictures sales have gone well into 5 figures. ‘All the boys over with Sarko at the Emirates Stadium are gutted,” chuckled one MP’s wife. “This is the only real ticket in town.” Even the paparazzi waiting outside couldn’t keep up their surly demeanour. “Tell us what she’s like, will you?” they begged.

“Give that woman a chatline,” sniggered one listener. A glass of wine later, however, and the initial niceties were becoming less sisterly: “They say she’s had work done.” Snickers aside, she clearly has not dissapponted, not with her wardrobe or her charm. Her stable of accessories is by Dior. Available at eluxury.com. Even I have been smitten, since she used to appear in Vogue. I have been a fan for as long as I can remember her debut as a model.

Magazines with her face on the front cover are flying off shelves. Not since Lady Diana Spencer was launched on the international scene has there been such a media circus surrounding a woman in public life.

If Carla is the new Diana, it’s the princess in her later years, at her most self-aware and dangerously charming. Modelling long ago taught Mme Sarkozy the ruses it took Di a decade to master: the power of chaste, downcast eyes. Yet I can’t help but imagine Carla as a long-limbed 10-year-old, acting out parts in front of the mirror. Now, she has landed the role of a lifetime.

Go Carla, live my dream!
