The Victoria and Albert Museum is hosting the Story of the Supremes, an exhibition featuring more than 50 of the group’s original costumes, based on Mary Wilson’s collection. Always keen to preserve the legacy of the Supremes, Wilson kept all their outfits in storage. ‘It was my dream that I would one day be able to share them with the world,’ she says.
The image of the Supremes, originally called the Primettes, was always important to the group - Diana Ross (real name, Diane Ernestine Earle) briefly studied dressmaking, and the group’s first costumes were homemade. In Gerri Hershey’s book Nowhere to Run: The Story of Soul Music, Ross describes their early dresses: ‘They were black and gold, and we had a string of gold fake pearls from the dime store… You remember those balloon dresses? We made some of these in a very bright flowered print. And we had these bright orange shoes with big flowers stuck on the front of them.’

According to a post on the eco blog - ecorazzi.com, “Retraction” stickers have been showing up in Elle Magazine’s green issue. They declare a statement related to an article on a group of supposed eco-terrorists. Here’s what the stickers say,

“Following consultation with federal agencies, we at Elle wish to retract this article. Not because of the stream of factual inaccuracies beginning in the second sentence (there has never been a CrimethInc. convergence in Athens, Georgia), but because in the current political climate it is irresponsible to even pretend to give a fair hearing to radical anti-capitalists. Even if Anna’s story is a cut-and-dried case of entrapment, we have to understand this as a necessary defense of our free market freedoms. Not to say that we are not concerned about the environment at Elle. On the contrary, the global environmental crisis offers unprecedented opportunities to promote sustainable fashions (p. 98), give the meat industry a makeover (p. 245), and renew faith in this country’s discredited electoral process (p. 104); even the color green itself is making a comeback (p. 72). Consumer capitalism may be threatening life on earth, but there’s simply no other option—that is, not unless you’re willing to join the ranks of the eco-terrorists.”
These stickers have been found in every issue in at least one bookstore. Anyone else encountered them? Read more

The rumors are true! There was an all-black Italian vogue magazine issue in the works. We told you about the black search engine and now here is the first all black fashion magazine issue of Vogue Italia.
Who better than Storm girl Jourdan Dunn to launch this groundbreaking issue. ALREADY one of the most in-demand models on the global fashion circuit, Storm girl Jourdan Dunn is about to make history - as part of a groundbreaking issue of Vogue Italia, which will feature only non-white models.
An industry source has confirmed to VOGUE.COM that the whisperers are accurate and that Steven Meisel has indeed shot an entire issue featuring black models, in a bid to encourage other magazines to diversify.
Apparently Dunn is only the second black model since Naomi Campbell to walk the Prada catwalk and that was in 1975. Come on Miu Miu!! On the other hand, it was Naomi. Who knows?
Naomi Campbell has always been outspoken about racism in fashion and 17-year-old Dunn, who was famously scouted in the Hammersmith branch of Primark in London, recently added her voice to the debate.
“London’s not a white city so why should all our castings be white? I go to castings and see several black and Asian girls, then I get to the show and look around and there’s just me and maybe one other coloured face,” she told the Evening Standard. “They just don’t get picked. I hope it’s because the designer just didn’t think they were good enough as a model but I don’t know.” (VOGUE)
I can’t read Italian but I do love Vogue Italias pictures. PS. Just threw this in the post. I love this guys work. Danny Roberts. Find him on www.igorandandre.blogspot.com

Get your shopping done quick this weekend as the store may not be open next week. WWD reports: Negotiations between Bloomingdale’s 59th Street store and its union are continuing today as the possibility of a strike threatens to shut down the store for the first time since 1965. The union of 2,000 workers hasn’t set a strike date, but its contract expires on Wednesday, April 30.
Bloomingdale’s and the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union Local 3, which represents about 2,000 workers at the store, have been in talks since February 14. The discussions pertain only to the 59th Street flagship. (WWD)

LINDSAY’S ETHICAL SWAP: Lindsay Lohan may be known for her revolving wardrobe of brand new designer duds, but after appearing in ad campaigns for labels from Miu Miu to Jill Stuart, the party-loving actress has now turned her attention to ethical fashion.
Visa Swap — a pop-up shop where customers can swap their cast-off clothing items for others’, which the credit card company will set up in London’s Covent Garden in June — has signed the actress to be the face of the project. Lohan has been shot in a collection of vintage clothing to promote the shop, and the images will be released in June.
The idea behind the project is that customers can donate clothing they no longer wear to the Covent Garden shop over a period of three weeks beginning June 21, and then have the value of their clothing — in points — put onto a Visa card. During the weekend of July 19, customers can then exchange the value of the points on their cards for others’ second-hand items. Visa will donate any left over items to TRAID, a British organization that raises money to support communities in developing countries by recycling clothing through its network of stores. (Marie Claire)

Mischa Barton is known for her great style and good taste, the fashion icon and vintage queen has also lent her name and even some of her clothes for the initiative last year. The idea behind the scheme is that people can take their fashion purchases - be it last season’s voluminous skirt or an impulse buy that’s never seen the light of day - down to a temporary shop in Knightsbridge, London and swap them with other fashionistas hunting out a new bargain.
Not only does this satisfy our indulgent wardrobe desires but any items that are unsold will go to the clothes-recycling charity TRAID (Textile Retrading for Aid and International Development), which aims to divert waste from landfill by recycling clothing as well as aid the development of projects in countries including Uganda, Nepal and Ethiopia.

In this months Ebony magazine, Vanessa Williams defines motherhood, juggling a career or several careers, children and a few husbands. (Gorgeous family)
The star of the award-winning show Ugly Betty stepped outside of her character as Wilhelmina Slater and revealed what it takes to be a modern-day mom who has redefined the ‘perfect’ family by juggling two ex-husbands, four children and a successful career. “Any woman who can have one ex-husband cook Thanksgiving dinner and have the other ex-husband clean up after dinner, that’s pretty special,” said actor Chris Williams, Vanessa’s younger brother.
