Jade Jagger unveils her $250,000 ice pick

Posted by v on April 29, 2008

The quarter-million-dollar ice pick has a carbon steel blade, 18-karat white-gold hilt studded with 12 carats of brilliant-cut diamonds and 42 pieces of pale sapphire and is inlaid with a blue lapis lazuli. The handle is bound in twisted white gold thread and topped with a giant moonstone and lapis lazuli bead. “Lapis is a good, strong, masculine stone with a bit of intrigue,” Jade Jagger said. “I think it is underappreciated, and it’s actually rarer than diamond, so I put it at the top of the dagger like a globe.” Guests included Paris Hilton, Rachel Zoe, Bai Ling, Nicky Hilton - you get the picture.
Every well appointed bar needs one of those.
“There is finesse in everything,” Jagger explained earnestly before dinner. “Just like you can realize there is good salt and there is bad salt, there is amazing ice, and there is run-of-the-mill ice. So if you hand-carve good ice with a diamond-encrusted dagger, let me tell you, your drink tastes better.”
We always knew that! Come on Jade, especially at $250,000. When you crush with a regular ice pick, ugh, disgusting.
A “cheaper” version, with just 12 carats of white topaz and 42 pieces of aquamarine, costs $10,000. (Both are available at Harrods in London, should you find yourself with more money than common sense.) It was unveiled, as such things are wont to be, via a Jermaine Browne-choreographed ritual dance that culminated in four dancers clad in gray silk shirt dresses by Jagger’s Jezebel line, each taking half-hearted stabs at an ice block the size of a refrigerator. (LA Times)
Love the dress though.  I could afford that, maybe? Will keep you posted on that line.

Frances Bean Cobain as Chanel model … apparently not!!!

Posted by v on April 29, 2008

On the subject of creepy adults, here’s another one.

Despite still being at school, 15-year-old Frances, whose father was rock star Kurt Cobain – famous for grunge rock anthems such as Smells Like Teen Spirit before his suicide in 1991 – has already appeared in a number of upmarket American magazines. “She’s only young, but there’s a lot of interest in Frances,” says a friend. “She is incredibly pretty and has the most perfect porcelain skin.

“She and her mother are having talks with Karl about Frances appearing in his next ad campaign. “Courtney is concerned about Frances pursuing a catwalk career at such a young age, so she has been involved in all the talks so far.” Mind you, the news that Lagerfeld is so taken with Frances might come as an unwelcome surprise to po-faced actress Keira Knightley – who is the current face of the French fashion house’s Coco Mademoiselle perfume.

UPDATE: Vogue magazine has reported that contrary to press reports,Cobain is not being wood for a Chanel spot.

Miley Cyrus - Bedsheet or satin stole - The real issue?

Posted by v on April 29, 2008

If you have not heard this story, then lucky you, don’t get involved. I am fairly broad minded about things but I found that picture a little unsettling and what is a 15 year old doing in Vanity Fair in the first place?. Why would any grown folk be interested in Hannah Montana. It just looked really weird. It reminded of pictures taken by pedophiles that you see on Nancy Grace.
Considering Vanity Fair got 4 million hits to their website and their name was on everybodys lips, they’re now hitting back very hard.Their biggest gripe seems to be about the fact that it was a duchess satin stole and not a bedsheet.

No one was more confounded than the magazine’s fashion and style director, Michael Roberts, who styled the shoot by Annie Leibovitz. “I’m European. I come from London, I lived in Paris, and I just find it extraordinary that this has been blown up like this,” he told WWD.
He continued, “The whole kiddie porn prurient angle seems to be worryingly sour grapes from other magazines that didn’t get a picture like this…teenagers can be seen on TV and in the cinema in the most prurient ways, and then a photograph which is for all intents and purposes innocent is blown out of portion and condemned as some ridiculous apotheosis.
Yeah, sure, everybody is jealous.
He discusses the change of heart “”Maybe Vanity Fair is a far too sophisticated media outlet for her. Maybe she’s better off in those teen magazines. We don’t do cheesy teen pictures. We do chic pictures and pictures that are beautiful portraits by probably the leading portrait photographer of our age.”

You think???? Vanity Fair does really weird covers with adults that trouble me and somehow you think bringing a child into this environment would actually have worked out under any circumstances? Shame on you all. Her parents, Vanity Fair , Hannah Montana, everyone. They all will do anything for fame.

Cyrus and child molester innuendos aside, there’s also the deeply upsetting matter of the bedsheet: He objected to the characterization of Cyrus’ attire as a bedsheet. “It’s a duchess satin stole, Champagne, specially made — I had several made for different photo shoots. I thought this one was really appropriate. It’s about 83 inches long. She’s not wrapped in something skimpy. Read more if you care (WWD)

On the topic of creepy child stuff, read our next post, Lagerfeld wants Frances Bean Cobain for Chanel. Oh Lord! where will this all end?
