“PRADA” - Trembled blossoms video

Posted by v on May 31, 2008

Found this strange, animated video by Prada and couldn’t take our eyes off. It was part of a campaign to launch  Pradas new “Trembled blossoms” handbag.

After the incredible success of the Prada Fairy Bag,  currently with a long wait list, Prada is trying to score again with their multicolor vibrant bags. The short animation is whimsical and strangely disturbing capturing the viewer from the first second to watch the transition of a cyber-woman’s journey through a magical Prada filled forest. At the end, she meets Pan who shows her how a tropical fish can transform into the stunning Prada Trembled Blossoms Bag. Would it were that life was this magical? Love, love, love the sunglasses.

The lush landscape evokes Miuccia Prada’s vision blending suggestions of Art Nouveau, Liberty, Audrey Beardsley and Hieronymous Bosch.

 In stores, $1,675.00

Cheap chic with Patricia Field and Payless Shoes.

Posted by v on May 30, 2008

Now, for a pairing that actually makes sense. Patricia Field, stylist to SATC, The Devil wears Prada, and lipstick Jungle etc, etc. Sex and the City turned high-end shoe labels like Jimmy Choo and Manolo Blahnik into household words. But not every Sex fan can afford to buy pumps that can come with a four-digit sticker price.

Needless to say, not everyone can afford $700 shoes, she then turned her attention to design a budet firendly collection for Payless Shoes. As long as they dont foam in the rain, we are cool.

Her new Capsule Red Carpet Collection for Payless is finally in stores.

The limited-edition holiday line includes edgy metallic and snakeskin platform shoes and boots and big-screen-worthy clutches. And even if you don’t plan on walking the red carpet any time soon, you can wear shoes that have, with a pair of metallic heels just like the ones Patricia Field wore to this year’s Academy Awards.  Prices range from $20 - $35 and you may actually end up feeling guilty.

She claims they are as good as Monolos. “I love some Louboutins and some Manolos,” said Field. “But personally, it kills me to spend that kind of money on a shoe. I’m much happier getting a shoe for less money that looks gorgeous.” Hmm!! I understand, but last time I bought a pair of shoes at Payless (like 10 years ago) and there was a little drizzle, the shoes kinda started to foam at the corners.

Can we trust Payless again? While in Payless, also check out Alice + Olivia for payless. If you do buy the shoes, drop us a line.

Celebrity designers gone wild - Its official! LL Cool J for Sears.

Posted by v on May 30, 2008

It would actually be funny if it was not crazy and ludicrous. Who the heck are these people and why do we allow them to pull such stunts? Are we the ones in control or is it them?. Every 3rd rate actor/actress/singer is designing his/her own clothing line. Witness LLCool J. Yes!!!! you read it right. LL Cool J, LLCool J for Sears.
Is this the same guy who loves to take his shirt off and then proceeds to lick his lips? Yuck!! Ugh! Just checking. Get this, he is actually not even designing a mens clothing line. Its for girls too, precisely tweens, because no self respecting teenager or adult should be caught dead in his designs.

The rapper has teamed up with Sears to create a collection of casualwear for juniors, young men’s, girls’ and boys’ labeled LL Cool J for Sears, reports Women’s Wear Daily. The new line will be housed in mini-stores within the department store and is being created to serve an urban consumer the retailer hasn’t been addressing.
This isn’t the rapper’s first dabble into fashion– along with his own men’s apparel brand, Todd Smith, he has also been the face of brands like Kangol and Fubu. But what makes his able to design a female line? Helloooo! you were the face not the designer. These celebrities cannot even tell the difference between the product they represent and whom they are, their egos are that large.

The rapper tells WWD that “I have a wife and three daughters, so I know what women are looking for when they shop for clothes.” Oh, yes! of course, you are the answer to womens clothing issues.

With his new LL Cool J for Sears’s junior line, LL will be concerned about the fit and fabrics for most. ” I know that if she comes in, puts it on and it doesn’t fit, she won’t come back. Clothes have to make a woman feel good, relaxed and sexy.”

Good, make them real sexy, especially for your daughters.

The collection will retail on the higher end of its mix in juniors — from $22 for a graphic T-shirt to $50 for a pair of jeans. LL Cool J’s collection will hit 450 of Sears’ 900 stores in September.

Wake me when this nightmare is over.

Counterfeit items seized in raid in NY - fake Trojans too.

Posted by v on May 30, 2008

We know New York is the haven of counterfeiters, they’ll be back. But wait…… did you know they also found fake condoms. Now we’ve heard it all. Aside from your usual designer handbag paraphernalia (Louis Vuitton et al) , they found Barbie dolls, Ipods, Marvel comic books and Caps for Major League Baseball and National Football League teams, all from the ZX Trading Corporation, in Queens.

The packaging of the Chinese condoms is almost identical to the legitimate ones, except that the counterfeit packaging is plastic, while the legitimate product is packaged in aluminum foil, said another source familiar with the investigation. “They [the counterfeiters] spent all their money on printing,” said Newsday.

But a source familiar with the federal investigation said that while the counterfeit condoms were of inferior quality, samples had been tested and they were no riskier to use than legitimate ones, says Newsday.

Okay, you should all feel so much better now. We already thought Barbie was fake. You mean she’s faker??

The counterfeits, which included millions of the phony Trojans, were sold for the past three years mainly in small discount stores in the area, as well as elsewhere in the country, including Texas and Virginia, according to court documents. (Newsday)

Elle MacPherson-face of Revlon & Posh Spice for Marc Jacobs

Posted by v on May 30, 2008

ELLE MacPherson has signed up to become the global brand ambassador for Revlon cosmetics. Finally a real model gets the job. Its been a while. Too often models have been sidelined by celebrities. Actors have been sidelined by reality TV stars and so on. Maybe eventually some people will realise their job descriptions and stick to it. Eva Longoria, Halle Berry, Cate Blanchette, Penelope Cruz, Uma Thurman etc, etc. Are you listening?

Elle will feature in Revlon’s advertising campaigns and charity work including the promotion of women’s counselling services and breast cancer research.

“Revlon is an iconic brand, bringing high quality products to women around the world and is complementary to my values,” Macpherson said. “I am proud to join Revlon in it’s celebration of women and in its long term commitment and support for education and research to advance women’s health and particularly to fight women’s cancers.”

Signing Elle is clearly a coup for the brand which already boasts Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry and Jessica Alba as celebrity ambassadors.

“Elle’s special qualities as a businesswoman, beautiful and talented model, actress and mother, represent the essence of the Revlon brand.” Revlon President and CEO David Kennedy said

VICTORIA BECKHAM

Speaking of non-models, Victoria Beckham has struck another set of bizarre poses for Marc Jacobs’ latest advertising campaign. The latest set shows a dishevelled Posh in a net-skirted black gown, with a grubby looking tan and oversized pale blue gloves, which look more suited for doing the washing up.
The latest images come with the announcement that Posh will not star in next season’s advertising campaign.

Speaking to The Independent this week, Jacobs confirmed, ‘We’re using models next season, we’re not ready for Kevin & Britney yet.’

Federline and Spears to you, in case you haven’t mastered designer speak.

Although he did add that the Posh campaign had worked well, saying ‘it was a huge success for both of us.’

Sure it was. ;) Yeah! Sure it was. Can’t you just see her on “Dancing with the Stars”.

Alessandro Dell’Acqua is Malo’s new man

Posted by v on May 30, 2008

The long-running fashion-world whispers have finally been confirmed, with the Italian house releasing a statement confirming the appointment of the 45-year-old Italian designer as its new creative director.  Alessandro Dell’Acqua is easily my favorite designer especially where his shoes are concerned. I dont know where he gets the ideas for shoes. - sitting at a deli?, in the shower ??

Wherever you get them, dont stop the creative juises from flowing. If you do what you do with shoes so well, Malo is a breeze. Bon Chance!

“I feel flattered by the trust that this appointment implies,” Dell’Acqua says. “I believe very firmly in Malo’s projects and I am happy to bring my experience and dedication.”

He steps into the shoes of 6267 duo Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi - who left Malo last month to take the reins at Gianfranco Ferre - and will present his first collection for the label at the spring/summer 2009 shows at Milan Fashion Week in September

Oh, you want a picture of Dell’Acqua? :) not just the shoes? You should have said something.

Whatever happened to “Lipstick Jungle”? Lip what???

Posted by v on May 30, 2008

Okay now we know, there will be no other like SATC but, where is Lipstick Jungle?????

Don’t worry, the much previously hyped SATC replacement has not been banned to the television basement. New episodes will air on Sept.24th. We’ll see if there’s any improvement in the script etc. The fashion itself was a’ight, no real pow.

Better yet, what the heck happened to Cashmere Mafia”.  The other SATC wannabe whose title sounded like they were a bunch of fierce grandmas. Apparently they’re still on. Did you know that?? but it looks like ABC itself is not so sure. The message on the website says to “Come back next week” I think that means “dud”.

STYLIST Patricia Field, who is responsible for the outfits on Sex and the City, is turning her hand to the US version of Kath and Kim. Kath and Kim is the US version of a successful Australian show. Maybe we’ll actually get some good fashion on TV going again.

Kath Day (Molly Shannon) is the mom. She’s a foxy, 40-something divorcée who finally has time for herself and her valiant search for love. Kim Day (Selma Blair) is the daughter. She’s a self-absorbed princess, recently separated from her husband, who finds consolation in stuffing her face. When Kim decides to move back home, Kath reluctantly agrees. But to Kim’s chagrin, Kath is not about to cater to her daughter’s every whim like she has in the past. Based on the most successful comedy in Australia of the same name, Kath and Kim are two brassy women who prefer the finer things in life like acrylic nails, big hair and faux diamond chips.

Somehow this does not smell of good fashion sense but if Patricia Field is involved, maybe…… (Ignore the fact that the two women are only eight years apart but play mother and daughter. In the Australian, both actresses are actually the same age.)

Judith Leiber sold - another retail casualty.

Posted by v on May 29, 2008

Another one bites the dust. Is no one immune to this mess in retail? Drooling over Judith Leiber handbags has always been a wonderful pastime and obviously that won’t stop with this majority sale.
Pegasus Capital Advisors has sold a majority stake in luxury American accessories brand Leiber to Schottenstein Stores Corp., which owns a majority of Filene’s Basement and DSW Shoe Warehouse and is the largest shareholder of American Eagle Outfitters.

While the acquisition could raise questions about whether Schottenstein would bring Leiber to a more mass level, Gleason insisted that the brand will maintain its status as an American luxury brand.

“What’s unique about the Leiber brand is that it’s at the highest level of luxury,” Gleason said. “The great thing about Schottenstein is that they are enamored with the luxury business and think Leiber is a jewel. We intend to keep it at the highest level and support the group that’s here. The majority of people in the company have been with the company, and we feel very strongly that we’ll keep it at that level. Obviously that’s our direction. These businesses are a separate entity and we think there is a tremendous opportunity to expand.”

Leiber, which until a couple of years ago was named Judith Leiber, after its namesake founder, is known for its crystal studded evening bags and day bags with exotic skins. The 45-year-old firm also has lines of fine jewelry, fur, footwear, eyewear and fragrance.

Maybe, maybe  we can finally afford one handbag.
