Has Gwyneth reclaimed her fashion crown?

Posted by v on May 4, 2008

The fashion fuss last week was about Gwyneth Paltrow. Maybe its because Ms Paltrow is usually demure, but this is one woman that does not seem to need a stylist.  The girl looked good, but she kinda had to dress up or the same media would rip her to shreds and they still did. Okay, but what about next month? Is she staying? Please stay, will you?.  I must admit, I love this dress from the Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Spring 2008 collection.

When Gwyneth Paltrow made the rounds to promote Iron Man, the buzz wasn’t about the Oscar winner’s return to the screen after an extended hiatus. It wasn’t about the curious casting of a serious actress as a superhero’s secretary. It was about her shoes. Paltrow’s sky-high stilettos, shoulder-length curls and up-to-there skirts were seen as a sign: She’s shedding her stay-at-home mom sweat pants and is ready to reclaim her throne in the celebrity pantheon.

Left:Vintage YSL dress- This, we dont particularly care for. She says she’s not staying. Iron Man marks her big comeback after small parts in Running with Scissors and her brother’s film, The Good Night. In the first of the summer blockbusters, she joins an all-star cast of Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges and director Jon Favreau.

”As soon as we heard she was interested, we put her in the movie,” Favreau says. “Gwyneth is refined, classy, smart and mature. She seemed a good pairing for Robert (Downey Jr.). It was a very quick decision.” So Paltrow is back, but on her terms. After shooting the upcoming Two Lovers with Joaquin Phoenix, she’s taking the rest of the spring and summer off.

”I don’t think I could go back to ever doing three, four, five movies a year. There’s just no way. There’s no way,” she says. “Maybe when they’re in college. But by that point no one will want me in a movie anymore, probably.”

I like Gwyneth, and she looked fab, but what do people expect. Is the media so starved for a fashion Icon, they are like dogs, jumping on every stray bone handed over to them? Please weigh in. Do you think is too soon to give her the fashion queen crown again?

Lindsay Lohan jumps on “Ugly Betty” bandwagon

Posted by v on May 4, 2008

I guess I would do exactly the same if my career was going nowhere. Grab every opportunity to keep my name out there and hey! look what it did for Britney. That is, star on a TV sitcom.

When Britney Spears’ guest starred on CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother” the appearance pushed the show’s ratings to an all-time high. No surprise then that another celebrity whose career is in a free fall should end up guest-starring on a series during May sweeps.

Lindsay Lohan will appear on the May 22 season finale and possibly five episodes next season, according to Variety. Her first day of shooting was yesterday (Saturday, May 3rd.) The deal was first floated last fall. But a sunny career touch up on a hit comedy series couldn’t have come at a better time for a recovering Lindsay Lohan whose mug shot was recently used in an alcohol industry ad to symbolize those “hard-core” drunk drivers with multiple DUIs.

From what we hear, she’ll play a down-on-her-luck old high school pal of Betty Suarez (America Ferrera), who wasn’t very nice to Betty in those days. I like Lindsay Lohan, think she is super cute but messed up. Good luck, LiLo. Just remember that America is the star, not you.

FUGU : IF the fish liver can’t kill you, Is it still a delicacy?

Poison has been as integral to fugu, the funny-looking, potentially deadly puffer fish prized by Japanese gourmands, as the savor of its pricey meat. So consider fugu, but poison-free. Thanks to advances in fugu research and farming, Japanese fish farmers are now mass-producing fugu as harmless as goldfish. Most important, they have taken the poison out of fugu’s liver, considered both its most delicious and potentially most lethal part, one whose consumption has left countless Japanese dead over the centuries and whose sale remains illegal in the country.

Muscle Water, Bone Water, Immune Water, and Brain Water for children??

There is a scene in the “Baby Mama” movie where Amy Pollacks’ character  takes a swig of something aand spits it out. She says “What is this? and  Tina Feys’ character  says “Its water”. Marketing sugar water to children is the new way companies are trying to get into your wallet. Buy, buy, buy and line our pockets so that we can ….( you fill in the blanks). Greasing thewheels of that ridiculous crass commercial machine that has gone completely out of control. The design artist Yves Behar introduces his line of children’s water.

This post appears on Kanye Wests’ blog promoting his friends new venture. Read the comments from the brownnosers who praise the concept. Like he’ll do something for them, such as “be their friend.

The only reasonable comment comes from FranciscoDAnconia : “Why do we treat kids as independent entities? Instead of coaxing them into drinking water by buying some expensive bottle, all you have to say is “drink this water from a glass” and make sure the kid drinks it. People just want to make parenting as easy as possible I guess; but that tends to lead to spoiled kids then adults who feel entitled to everything.
I really think the branch of flavored waters is stupid.Seriously, drinking water shouldn’t be a chore or something that needs to be made easier by putting sugar and other chemicals into it.” Well said.
