Resort 2008- De la Renta and Chanel collections.

Posted by v on May 14, 2008

OSCAR DE LA RENTA - Click to watch show.

I love, love, love resort. I like to think its because I am from a hot country and this is what the women love to wear. That part of it is true, but not everyone of course can afford Oscar, but you get the idea. Oscar de La Renta does not disappoint one tiny bit with this collection. All the clothes are actually wearable. Yatch not included.

Thank you, Mr. De La Renta for keeping fashion fantasies alive.

CHANEL 2008 Miami - WATCH THE RUNWAY SHOW

- Watch the behind the scenes production for the show.

Over the past few years, Chanel has made it a tradition to take its cruise shows on the road, from New York¹s Grand Central Terminal to an airplane hangar in Santa Monica, Calif. For this excursion, Chanel took over the Raleigh for four days, shutting it down to the general public, with tight security protecting the property like a fortress. The show itself will feature a runway designed to mimic the curved lines of the hotel pool, and a celebrity list that is expected to include Diane Kruger, Zoe Kravitz, Anna Mouglalis and Cat Power.

Americas Next Top model winner shocker!

Posted by v on May 14, 2008

And the winner is WHITNEY!!! A coup for all plus sized models and non-models all over the world. Whitneys win guarantees they will be talking about ANTM tommorrow! After all the blah okay, moderately okay winners ANTM churns out, I think this is one we will see in the future, like Tocarra.

I am glad that she won even though I agree with  Paulina.  “Whitney’s the girl you want in the bedroom and Anya’s the one you buy the dress from,” was Paulina’s thought.

The ANTM winners are often sent into model purgatory where there was no work after ANTM, short of the odd rap music videos, travelling to cover girl factories and the occassional ad. Congratulations ANTM, you finally broke the mold.  Skinny girls, cry your size 0 eyes out.

And then there was one - Americas Next Top Model finale!

Posted by v on May 14, 2008

My pick is Anya- Utterly, utterly charming Hawaian Anya with the foreign accent?. Runner up is Whitney. Stay tuned. Maybe they won’t find clothes in Whitneys size for the Versace show. If they do, shes runner up, if not its Fatima.

Art meets Mart - Designer/celeb pairings gone wild!

Posted by v on May 14, 2008

Okay, we know this will NEVER stop. Its much, much too lucrative. Tori Spelling is the new face of Skechers. Vanessa Paradis is the new face of Miu Miu, so long Kirsten. Models are so passe, besides, who knows them until they are supermodels. Hmm! Why not get an actor to do a models job and a model to sing or act. After all, they are all tres talented. Eventually we wont be able to tell which is which.

Josh Hartnett is the new face of Armani Diamonds for Men. If you recall, Beyonce was their girl last year. Wonder what happened, if anything.

GWYNETH PALTROW/DENNIS HOPPER AND TODS - Actor and director Dennis Hopper completed a new short film in coordination with Italian accessories brand Tod’s on Friday. Hopper, a longtime friend of Tod’s chief executive officer Diego Della Valle, filmed a day in the life of Gwyneth Paltrow in Italy with her Tod’s Pashmy bag. The four minute, yet-to-be-named short will debut at the Cannes Film Festival and will then play on the Tod’s Web site.

Tyra Banks debuts new reality show “Stylista”

Posted by v on May 14, 2008

Could Tyra possibly be the hardest working ex-model on TV? CW picked up “Stylista” a companion piece to Tyra Banks/Ken Mok’s “America’s Next Top Model” on Wednesdays. Fashion fix Wednesdays are here???

From the same producers, “Stylista” is a “Devil Wears Prada”-esque competition show that allows 11 ambitious assistants to taste what it’s like to have heavy responsibilities at Elle magazine by helping its fashion news director Anne Slowey.

The winner will get the editorial position at Elle, a paid lease on a Manhattan apartment and a clothing allowance at H&M for a year. Woo! Hoo!!! Thats what everyone wants, no escape from H&M.
The series, described as “The Devil Wears Prada” meets “The Asssistant,” will allow ambitious assistants to taste what it’s like to have heavier responsibilities at a fashion magazine. In each episode, the contestants will meet two challenges: an individual and team competition. Each group will submit a page for “The Book,” a mockup of the proposed magazine. The losing team’s page will be dumped, and one member will be eliminated.

The winning team’s page will be included in “The Book.” The ultimate winner of the show will land a job in the fashion industry.

“It is a competition show about aspiring assistants looking to become assistant editors at a fashion magazine,” says Mok. “At the same time they’re trying to prove themselves as aspiring fashionistas, that they have a sense of style and savvyness, all the things to make it in the fashion world.”

Go Tyra, it should at least be fun the first few seasons before it attracts people like Dominique.

Oprah cancels “The Big Give”

Posted by v on May 14, 2008

“Oprah’s Big Give” helped ABC to big Sunday ratings, but apparently they weren’t big enough for Oprah Winfrey, as the queen of daytime has asked ABC to pull the plug on her first foray into primetime.

We loved that show and absolutely would have loved to bring it back,” ABC entertainment president Steve McPherson said yesterday . “But it was something [Oprah] didn’t want to do.”

On “Big Give,” a diverse group of 10 people criss-crossed the country scrambling to find ways to boost the fates and fortunes of unsuspecting, deserving people. Each week the least effective giver was sent home.

The series grew out of a “Pass It On” episode Oprah did on her afternoon talk show when she gave each audience member a $1,000 and a video camera with instructions to give away the money to someone deserving and to record it for a follow-up show that aired several weeks later.

“The Big Give” was Oprah’s first regular foray into primetime and, while she is the most watched - and wealthiest - daytime TV personality, she has yet to crack prime-time TV with a hit series.

The winner was announced last month: Bedford, N.Y. contractor Stephen Paletta, 43, who took home $1 million after competing in such challenges as giving away $100,000 in just 24 hours and granting “wishes” to the terminally ill.  (NYPost)

What a perfectionist!. Average is simply not good enough. We should all learn something.

Enough! with the Nina Garcia / Project Runway saga.

Posted by v on May 14, 2008

It is so frustrating when people try to turn a non-story into a story. Witness Nina Garcia’s exit from Elle to Hearst, Project Runway etc. From the fashion bloggers point of view, this appears really as important as who is running for President, or the earthquake in China. Mention Nina Garcia once, okay maybe twice and move on.

Fellow bloggers, lets take a collective breath, lets not try to whip life into a dead horse, its not important whether she stays on Project Runway or if it moves to Lifetime. At least not to us viewers. It matters to the folks who make millions off the show. Garcia is author of The Little Black Book of Style. She is also slated to appear on Ugly Betty  with the Runwaywinner to date, Christian Siriano.

The companies involved have a lot of legal issues to settle among themselves, most definitely. Weinstein Company., which produces Project Runway, announced the Peabody Award-winning Bravo series would be moving to Lifetime, a surprise move that brought the wrath of NBC Universal’s legal department down upon the Weinstein brothers’ heads seemingly overnight.

In the breach-of-contract lawsuit it filed, Bravo’s parent company called the Weinsteins’ five-year deal with Lifetime an “invalid agreement” and accused the producers of engaging in “sham negotiations.”

China earthquake

Important enough for the rest of us? Not in the final analysis, it is not, Nina Garcias departure and re-entrance is fluff in every sense of the word. There are real things to worry about like the earthquake in China, the cyclone in Burma.

Burma Cyclone

Bury this story and as they say on the show “Fashion is merciless”, so deal with it and move on. Who cares if they never see her slumped over her chair again on Project Runway?
