Claudia Schiffer returns in Vogue Germany and Chanel ads.

Posted by v on May 15, 2008

Is there some disturbing trend here?. Admittedly nudity is quite passe in Europe but the celebs on the covers? Is this some form of career advancement or am I missing something? Anyway, Claudia has recently returned to more high profile modelling, so that doesn’t fly.

Photographed by Mario Testino, Claudia 38, is keeping with the current superheroes theme. She has on a pair of briefs and a feline mask. Claudia still looks superb after two children and has just themed up with Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. I wont say anything other than you go girl!

Hermes “DIY” Kelly - Build a handbag in your spare time.

Posted by v on May 15, 2008

Okay, if you don’t have much else to do, here’s one. Build yourself a Kelly handbag. Yeah! The people at Hermes must have been inspired by the people at Fendi, who want you to color your own handbag. I am sure that concept went down beautifully.

The great part of this, is that there are people who will, I mean, will buy anything if you tell them its cool, hip, and everyone is buying it. Remind you of anyone you used to know?
On the other hand, if you know someone who is fabulous at making handbags, get them to copy this for you. Oh wait, if they are that good at making handbags, they’d know how to do this already. Oh well, Hermes did try to help the little people.
Download pattern from their website. www.hermes.com

Cannes Watch - Slim pickings but no less drama.

Posted by v on May 15, 2008

There appears a dearth of really good movies at this years festivals, however it does not stop the buzz that Sean Penn, the current President of the festival and Angelina Jolie are creating.

Sean Penn is creating buzz on his remarks about George Bush, stopping short of calling him stupid. A sentiment which unfortunately I am sure most of those present shared. Angelina Jolie stealing most of the thunder away from her movie by announcing she is expecting twins. Way to promote your movie, Angelina.  Please tell me again why this movie is at Cannes. Is it in contention for any award? Jack Black is cute but I dont think even he has aspirations for an Oscar. Angelina Jolie on the other hand does not seem quite so sure as to how she wants to be perceived. View the official website of KungFu Panda, you may get it.

It’s not just the $100 T-shirts along Cannes’ crowded shopping streets that have buyers guarding their money. Rather, it’s the apparent short supply of potential breakout movies available for sale at this year’s film festival.  Read more

Insiders guide to high end sample sales

Posted by v on May 15, 2008

Finding out about the good samples sales can be as challenging as finding the “It” bag or the perfect shoe. “Retailers need to move their merchandise from past seasons, and [hosting] a large event like a warehouse or sample sale is the last-ditch effort for them to make a profit off of their overstock,” says Denise Williamson, owner of the Williamson Showroom in New York City, where designers such as Trovata and Development participate in a two-day biannual sample sale. “The consumer loves it, for the most part. If you had your eye on something all season and it’s discounted heavily now, why wouldn’t you want to get it?”

Yes, you hear about these sales ALL the time but what about the exclusive ones, the Pradas, Chanel, Hermes. Do they have sales? You better believe they do. Most of these sales are by invitation only, most are in New York. Oh darn, you say. Dont worry, there are a few being offered in LA, Chicago, Dalla,SanFrancisco, Dublin, london and Canada.

Louis Vuitton-  Late Fall/Eary winter. Ever wonder why Louis Vuitton’s merchandise never publicly goes on sale? The company tends to move its merchandise through an end-of-season sale held only for its employees. The only way you can be a part of that sale is to ask an employee friend or friend of a friend to go shopping for you. And the friend has to be in New York City.

Hrermes - You truly have to be an insider. You may not find bags but you will find accessories, scarves, clothing etc.

Wliiamson Showroom Sale- Labels such as Develpoment and Trovata. Bi-annual sales with up to 60% off. No dressing rooms and first day is open to Press, friends and family.

Diane Von Furstenberg- Twiceyearly - June and December . For more info go to www.dvf.com

Manolo Blahnik - 70% off. Access by invite only. Go to www.manoloblahnik.com

Prada -Sale is not advertised and you are limited to two one hour time slots. Sign up on their website www.prada.com.

Want to discount-shop outdoors? Super Saturday, in Bridgehampton, N.Y., hosts an all-day event each summer where designers from Juicy Couture to Christian Dior sell merchandise at major markdowns, all to benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. General admission to the event is $400 ($600 if you want early access), but that’s nothing compared with the average of $4,000 to $6,000 shoppers will drop in one afternoon, according to Tracy Enright, events director for the Cancer Research Fund. For more info go to www.ocrf.org

For some of the best shopping ever, head down to Austin, Texas - San Marcos. Its a shopping Mecca especially at Neiman Marcus last call where you will find items discounted up to 80% off. Theres also a  Gucci outlet, Zegna, Armani, Escada,Michael Kors,La Perla, Juicy Couture and so many more. My sister picked up 12 handbags on her last trip.

Rule #1 :Why you shouldn’t always wear what you like.

Posted by v on May 15, 2008

In fashion as in life, It pays to be a good listener and a good judge of self. These character traits come in handy especially in fashion, beacause you may truly lack fashion sense. Because you like it, doesn’t mean you should wear it. Because bright colors are in does not mean they work for you. Because gladiators are in does not mean you will not look like a dominatrix when you wear them.

Here is Janet, doing her best drag queen/genie/Ali Baba’s mom impression at the opening of the Alexander McQueen boutique in LA. Honey, this just completely overwhelms you. The shoulders, the sleeves, the colors Aaarghh, too much for a petite person.

Janet, Call me!! I can help you. You looked also less than stellar at the Met Ball. Now I can’t dance like you but I can help you in this area. Dont’ fret however, someone looked a lot worse than you. Beth Ditto. What an apt name.
