Oprah to jumpstart the economy with O-wards!.

Posted by v on May 19, 2008

Everyone wants a peice of Oprah. Okay, not that kind of piece but when you can actually afford something Oprah can, you feel good. Oprah announced her favorite items last week and gave out to everyone in her audience. For those of us not able to be in her audience, we hunt the items down. At least the ones we can afford. If this doesn’t halt the recession, we don’t know what will.

First one we agree on,Oprah likes covergirl lash blast mascara. You too, Oprah? At $7.65 we like it too.

Check out the rest of the O-wards for beauty we compiled. They won’t cost you much and besides Oprah said they were good, so what are you waiting for??

Camden High, NJ Fashion Reality - Movie anyone?

Posted by v on May 19, 2008

We love feelgood stories and this one definitely got our attention. All we want to know is when it will get made into a movie. Don’t you get tired of all the high school sports movies. Don’t get me wrong, Its nice when people rise out of obscurity but Yawn! its always the basketball team ,the swim team, the football team. Yeah! Yeah! What about the fashion team.? What if the next Lagerfeld, Galliano or Marc Jacobs comes out of these situations. Puff Daddy doesn’t count. He went about fashion via rap. We need the protagonist to be seriously, wickedly devoted to fashion. WATCH THE VIDEO
Miguel Santana, a tall, quiet 16-year old who became the show’s artistic director, had been interested in the fashion industry long before Parish Nation came to Camden, and hoped to move to Japan, a place he had become interested in while surfing the Internet. It was busy there, and far away, and, he said, it would be fine with his family: “The only thing my mom told me to do was graduate.”

Miguel, we hope to see you on at least “Project Runway”, if not in Paris.

We know Parish Nation NY got lots of free advertising, but being in this business, we know that in fashion shows, your clothes get wrecked. So, well done Parish Nation! We also love that reality bites “Don’t stand in the hallway or I’ll send security after you”. What a mood killer :) (NYT)

We know the movie won’t be any “Sex in the City” stuff but we promise we’ll watch it even as “Made for TV”

Rachel Zoe launches clothing line - under Beanstalk Group Inc.!

Posted by v on May 19, 2008

I am sure the irony or the joke  is not lost on anyone. Rachel Zoe, who single handedly brought back anorexia to Hollywood via Nicole Richie, is launching a clothing label under “The Beanstalk Group Inc. ( Incidentally, her name rhymes with “So” )

Few falls from fashion grace have been as unexpected and as humiliating as that of Rachel Zoe.    Once you typed her name into the internet and you were greeted with endless adoring websites, extolling her genius and her famous friends; now it’s pages of sniggering blogs cackling over the end of “the Queen of the Underworld”.  But…. she’s not gone, so ladies, stop eating! Rachel Zoe is launching her own clothing line.

The celeb stylist has partnered with The Beanstalk Group Inc. to develop a line of apparel, accessories and undergarments under the Rachel Zoe brand. The project is still in the beginning stages. If this is anything like her reality TV show, it will never materialize.

So, what seems to be the problem, you ask? Doesn’t everybody try to have their own clothing line. After all she is celebrity to the stars. Look before you say anything. Ladies, we present Rachel Zoe.

In an interview with Vogue earlier this year she said, “My mission, when I moved here [to Los Angeles], was to try, somehow, to merge the worlds of fashion and celebrity.” Its okay Zoe, Zsa Zsa Gabor would be proud of you.

In the Vogue interview she summed up her look, in true fashion description-style, with as few verbs and as many repetitions of the word glamour as possible: “It’s very 60s to 70s glamour. It’s Mod meets Grecian. A lot of gold and a lot of bronze, shimmer and glamour, but relaxed glamour, very unstructured, bold accessories.” Her mantra is “shine and gold, shine and gold, always”.

Rachel’s rules

Five fashion essentials from the ‘Queen of the Underworld’

Oversized sunglasses

They make you look famous and they make you look thin - what’s not to love?

Vintage dresses -Once upon a time, you only needed to wear a velour tracksuit to be considered stylish in Los Angeles. Now you need a $5,000 vintage YSL kaftan.

Huge and colourful designer handbags -Particularly Balenciaga’s Lariat bag. There’s nothing quite like having a $3,000 accessory dangling off the wrist to give a girl some cred.

Headscarves A little bit Nora Batty, yes, but very, very useful for keeping one’s blond highlights off the neck to show off the clavicles that little bit better.

Chunky men’s watches -Forget about delicate timepieces from Tiffany’s: the truly stylish know a big Cartier is much more flattering on one’s wrist , plus they make your wrist look really thin.
