Dolce & Gabanna “Fall 09″ looks to Queen, for inspiration

Posted by v on May 21, 2008

Dolce & Gabbana have championed Elizabeth II as the muse of their autumn/winter collection, in which headscarves and rustic garb abound, while no less an authority than Miuccia Prada has labelled Her Majesty “one of the most elegant women in the world”.

There was a Royal wedding last weekend. Very quiet wedding- of a Canadian Management consulting bride Autumn Kelly to her prince Peter Phillips.

The most diverting aspect of last weekend’s royal wedding was not the Hello! deal, but how dashingly the House of Windsor scrubbed up, taking its cue from the Duchess of Cornwall as the Firm’s fashion innovator. Back Up—- Camilla?????? Theres a new fashionista in the palace?

Where once HM emulated the fustier reaches of her late mother and sister’s wardrobes, so now she feels at ease dressing like her daughter-in-law. And wonderful it looks, too - be it the flattering colours, strategic tailoring, exquisite textiles.

It’s not only the Queen who has been impressed by Camilla’s attire. “Camilla has become a fashion icon for the older woman,” says Seward. “She gets it right by going for a plain outfit with classic jewels. It’s very elegant.”

And Anna Wintour, editor of American Vogue, fell into raptures over the duchess’s “glamour”, saying Camilla had “that something that makes your jaw drop, that makes you gasp”.

Okay, lets read this post again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you sure your’e not just saying this because you want to be invited to the palace, Ms. Wintour.

The point, I presume is that we will work a few pieces here and there and not do the whole look.

Yes, thats what we’ll do!

Sneak peek video of Naomi’s “Ugly Betty” cameo.

Posted by v on May 21, 2008

Dancing with the Stars was over yesterday, American Idol is over today but thank goodness we still have Ugly Betty. Season finale tommorrow. Watch this video and watch the show and don’t worry, whatever brain cells you lose may be restimulated. If you didn’t know, Naomi is very very clever and she remembers everybody!

Even as Naomi says, “She needs her brain to be stimulated. Oh, we are sure your brain is very stimulated. “You are the reason we all have heels on the show”, and “Don’t call me a supermodel”. “I’m a working model, a grateful working model”. Terribly intelligent stuff here. Enjoy! we will have other occassions to pretend to be smart.

Cannes Watch … The color purple, Dresses that is.

Posted by v on May 21, 2008

One of my favorite colors but from experience, most women are scared to death of wearing the color Purple. It is a color boutique owners are advised to be wary of stocking, because not too many women buy it. Next time, you go into a store, check out how many purple items you see. It stays so long on their floor or shelf, that you actually think of it eventually as a prop. Imagine the joy of this explosion of purple at the Cannes festival. Here are  Mischa Barton, BarRefaeli, Alberta feretti ( the designer), Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchette( not in purple) and Caroline Gruosi Scheufele (co-chairman, Chopard) on the red carpet at Cannes.

Gorgeous, is all we can say. We hope to see more women and men wearing this color and not just basic safe black. The color purple represents royalty. A mysterious color, purple is associated with both nobility and spirituality. The opposites of hot red and cool blue combine to create this intriguing color.

Interesting tidbits about purple

  • The color of mourning for widows in Thailand, purple was the favorite color of Egypt’s Cleopatra.
  • A purple room can boost a child’s imagination or an artist’s creativity. Too much purple, like blue, could result in moodiness.
  • The only feng shui spaces purple as a color can be used freely are a healing room or a meditation space.

LiLo to DJ Naomi’s birthday bash,Patricia Field to design for M&S

Posted by v on May 21, 2008

Naomi Campbell never did make it on the catwalk at the Chanel cruise show last week. Why? Because she was meeting the Prime Minister. Why? Who knows… maybe to apologise for that silly misunderstanding with BA?
One thing is for sure, Campbell will definitely be in Cannes this Friday. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are throwing the supermodel a Dolce Vita bash for her 38th birthday. Guests expected at the party include Bono, Sharon Stone and Kylie Minogue, with Lindsay Lohan acting as DJ.
“It’s all about the right mix of people,” said Gabbana.  Incidentally Naomi sees herself as an advocate for political correctness? At least if you’re an international beauty icon.
Naomi is standing up for beautiful women everywhere and trying to put a stop to the term supermodel, according to an appearance on this Ugly Betty podcast (promoting the show’s season finale this Thursday).
“It’s a term we don’t particularly like,” says Campbell, pointing out that the preferred nomenclature among good-looking women who are paid to promote stuff is “working model.”

MARKS AND SPENCERS GETS SEXY (About time!)

MARKS & SPENCER is sexing up - having signed Sex and the City stylist Patricia Field to design an exclusive, one-off collection to go in-store this October.

The once-in-a-lifetime design collaboration is a first for M&S.  Described by Field as ‘Destination Style New York’, the range – set to hit stores and online in October – will feature 35 trend-focused ‘luxury’ pieces with a nod to high-octane glamour. The main onus is on to-die-for dresses, but the range will also comprise of a capsule collection of tops, trousers and accessories.

The 35-piece range - which we’re promised “reflects Patricia Field’s individual signature styling combined with Marks & Spencer’s exceptionally high standards in quality, precision cutting and finish” - will not only be sold in UK stores but also online and in selected international markets, which is another first for the retailer.

“For the first time ever, women all over the world will have a chance to own for themselves one, or more, of the sexy, glamorous and individual styles of Patricia Field,” says Kate Bostock, M&S’s executive director of clothing. “This year is the perfect time for this unique opportunity, with the Sex and the City movie hitting screens, to showcase a range specially designed by the woman who created such amazing looks in so many films and TV series.” (Vogue)

Mulberry heads to the beach and Jade Jagger opens in Bombay.

Posted by v on May 21, 2008

Talk about heading in completely opposite directions.

HOT on the heels of launching a clothing and jewellery range last year, Jade Jagger has now set her sites on opening two standalone stores in London and Bombay.

“It’s really taking off in Bombay, like in Moscow. It’s so cosmopolitan now,” says the designer, who recently collaborated with Belvedere vodka to create an 18-carat white gold ice dagger, dubbed the “Jagger Dagger”.

Known for her glamourous boho style (not to mention Ibiza-based lifestyle), it’s little wonder to hear that she is also looking forward to working with local Indian artisans on forthcoming collections.

Both stores are reported to open within the year while bags and an extended offering on the clothing front can be expected for autumn/winter 2008-9, WWD reports.

Mulberry is taking a cue from the Comme des Garçons guerilla manual and opening their first pop-up shop! The British accessories firm is opening it’s first U.S. pop-up shop in East Hampton, N.Y., on Saturday. The 1,300-square-foot store has Gucci and Ralph Lauren as neighbors. The company is banking the prime location will garner attention for the brand’s burgeoning categories such as ready-to wear for men and women. The accessories line will be opening in East Hampton 48 Main Street on May 24 for the summer season with their complete collection of men’s and women’s merch, including their Cutler and Gross sunglasses collab and T-shirts adorned with Julie Verhoeven’s illustrations.

Nine West retail price fixing order partially reversed.

Posted by v on May 21, 2008

The Federal Trade Commission has partially reversed an order against Nine West Group Inc. and now will allow the company to set the minimum price at which the brand’s footwear can be sold at retail, but only under the agency’s scrutiny.

Under the 2000 order, Nine West agreed to settle FTC charges that it engaged in retail price fixing with certain dealers in violation of federal antitrust laws. At the same time, Nine West entered into separate settlement agreements with various states for violations of state antitrust laws. This modification does not affect those state orders. According to the FTC, the company’s conduct deprived consumers of the benefits of competition, and prices to consumers of Nine West products increased. The order banned Nine West, for a 20-year period, from threatening or penalizing dealers that sell below the company’s designated retail prices.(FTC)
