When the 3:30 p.m. dismissal bell rings at the Anglo-American School in Moscow, Kira Plastinina isn’t on her way to swim practice or to hang out with friends. She’s headed to the office. Unlike most girls her age, Kira spends her free time taking care of business. As the chief designer of her namesake clothing line, she approves sketches, chooses fabrics, and tweaks designs until the wee hours of the morning.

Kira first embarked on the road to success when her father, Sergei Plastinin, noticed her sketching one day at the kitchen table. Impressed by her designs, Sergei proposed the idea of producing and selling them to the public. “I thought he was joking!” Kira recalls. Fast-forward two years, and she is the talk of the town in her homeland. The teen tycoon has opened over 30 retail stores in Russia, with 16 more to be unveiled Stateside this year. Judging by her collection—an affordable mix of funky, sequin-lined hoodies and flirty, bright-hued dresses—Kira is here to stay.
Look out, Seventh Avenue, the Russian is coming! — the teen fashion mogul is scheduled to open 50 shops in the US by 2010 with the first scheduled to open this May.
Oh! the things we could accomplish if Daddy was a billionaire!

No offence Charlize Theron (pronounced “Tronn” or “Thrown”, who is of German descent), but truly, should Dutch people consider themselves African considering their history in South Africa?. I know I am going to catch flak for this article, and upset a few people but bear with me.
This notion came to mind because of the supposedly next hottest model since Gisele.
BEHATI Prinsloo , 19, who hails from Namibia, is being groomed to be “the next Gisele Bundchen” at Victoria’s Secret (which Bundchen left last year). The 5-foot-10 stunner - discovered three years ago while on holiday in Cape Town, South Africa - was just signed as the face (or body) of the Victoria’s Secret Pink line. We’re told the lingerie company “sees her as the next big spokesmodel” for the entire brand.
I think this is just a massive PR hype and it is done because it sounds so much more exotic than saying “I am from Holland”.
With a name like Prinsloo, where else could you be from but Holland?
Everyone knows the history of the Dutch in South Africa and Aruba and if not for the resiliency of these indigenous people, they would have been wiped out.
The Dutch introduced minority rule in South Africa and up till today, black Arubans are not allowed to call themselves Arubans.
The only reason black South Africans still exist is beacause many were ready to die defending their land and their freedom. The Dutch were ready to wipe them out and Lord knows they tried.
I also don’t buy the argument that it is the same as immigration - no! this is the equivalent of coming over to the United States or going to any other country and taking it over by force. This is a tragedy that should never have been allowed to happen and this is an issue no one has ever approached the Dutch government with and no-one probably ever will. All the governments turn a blind eye to the Dutch and address other issues, bringing war criminals from other countries to justice even decades later. What the Dutch did to the Africans was as bad if not worse than what Saddam Hussein did to the Iraqis.
So, Behati, you can call yourself anything you like. Maybe it makes you more exotic but it gets me each time I read about the Dutch referring to themselves as Namibian or as a South African. Are you really? Your descendants created the mess and havoc in South Africa and most people usually don’t try and destroy the land they are “from”.
By the way I am not South African.

With all of Avons’ recent successes, its no surprise that they are upping the stakes. They have signed in recent times, Jordin Sparks, Patrick Dempsey and now the new “Bond girl” Gemma Arterton to be rightfully its new face of Bond 007.
Avon Products, Inc. announced a collaboration with the James Bond entertainment franchise, property of Danjaq LLC and Eon Productions, to create a new signature Bond Girl 007 women’s fragrance, bringing the confident allure of cinema’s sexiest icons to Avon consumers worldwide.
British actress Gemma Arterton, who plays the role of Agent Fields in the upcoming Bond film, will be the face of the new fragrance. She will appear in TV and print advertising when Bond Girl 007 launches globally in October 2008 in conjunction with the worldwide release of “Quantum of Solace,” the 22nd film in the Bond franchise, which is the largest and longest running movie franchise in history.
The fragrance, created by Firmenich, evokes the glamour, confidence and sensuality of the famous femmes fatale of the Bond franchise. The scent is a sexy cocktail of velvety florals, cool freshness and warm woods.
It features top notes of velvety white peach and orange blossom followed by mid-notes of jasmine, calypso orchid and freesia. The drydown consists of amber, cashmere wood and patchouli. Bond Girl 007 is housed in a sleek, seductive bottle reminiscent of a woman’s body. The cap is a stealthy homage to a Bond spy gadget.
The fragrance will be featured in the Avon brochure, which is distributed through over 5 million Avon Representatives around the globe, as well as on the company’s website. It will be supported by print and TV advertising in Avon’s top markets throughout North America, Europe and Latin America.
